A man tours clubs around the globe with his manager and girlfriend. On the eve of their largest album release he is admitted to a psychiatric clinic after overdosing at a gig.
Underground dancers — Alice, Arseny, Stepan, Timur, Kirill, Lyosha and Kristina — are engaged in free creativity. They dream of getting recognition, but staying true to themselves. One day they get a chance to turn the game around: take part in a big documentary project and a TV show. Everyone will have to answer the question of why they dance — for the sake of popularity or at the call of their hearts.
The oppressive atmosphere before a storm and the tragic fate of a tormented young woman form the indivisible elements of "Katia Kabanova". The opera's action is set in a small Russian village around 1860 and represents the annihilation and subsequent suicide of Katerina Kabanova, a sensitive young woman married to a weak man and bullied by her mother-in-law, who is searching for liberation through love and ends her life consumed by remorse for her infidelity. The story's common denominator is the Volga river, a witness of the main character's hapless family relations and her frustrated passion, and in whose merciful waters she finally finds peace. The adaptation into the Czech language of Ostrovsky's tragic play "The Storm" allowed Janáček to create one of his most outstanding operas, in which the conciseness and intensity of the musical language are merged with the dramatic force of his libretto. In the late 1990s, Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd had their musical ambitions consistently ridiculed for having the 'wrong' accents, so they went for broke and reinvented themselves as Californian rappers. Richard Eyre’s elegant production, which sets the action in 1940s occupied France, was one of the highlights of the Met’s 2015–16 season. Massimo Cavalletti as Manon’s brother and Brindley Sherratt as her aging admirer co-star, and Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium.

For his audio-visual recordings of both Das Lied von der Erde and the songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Leonard Bernstein turned to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, an ensemble with which he had a decades-long relationship. For this live recording made at the Frederick Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv of Mahler’s 1908 work – a part symphony, part song cycle setting fin-de-siècle German translations of Chinese poetry – the conductor is joined with two of the greatest singers of the time: tenor René Kollo and mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig, who features in the final song of the work, “Der Abschied” – a heartbreaking farewell that lasts as long as all five other movements put together.
