On a global scale, war is always either further away or closer. In the film we see the tragic day from many perspectives. The narrator talks, looks through photographs and documents, and talks about other wars, about other children: Japanese, Cambodian, Balkan, Rwandan, Syrian. Documentary footage mixes with animation to create a kind of inner world landscape.
1941 and the war culminates. The wife of a lieutenant and a sergeant fall madly in love. Afghanistan. 1986. From the border towards Kabul on a mountain road moving column of Soviet military armored vehicles. From the air it is covered by combat helicopters. The way of the column lies through the only bridge in these parts. This is well aware of the Afghan Mujahideen and under the leadership of American instructors are preparing an operation to capture the bridge and destroy the Soviet equipment blocked in this case. At this time, located in the mountains of the Soviet geological expedition undergoes a night attack spooks. The Afghan guards scatter and the geologists decide to go to Kabul. On the way, they are informed about the approaching military column, from which they will be much safer to get to Kabul. Stefan Radetzky, a Polish pilot and famous concert pianist, is hospitalised in England from injuries sustained while in combat, and having lost his memory. As Radetzky plays the piano in a trance-like state, the story moves back in time to war-torn Warsaw. During an air-raid, Radetzky meets American journalist Carole, and there is a mutual attraction. Following the fall of Poland, Radetzky and Irish pilot, Mike, escape to Rumania and then on to America. Radetzky continues his musical career in America and meets up again with Carole.

In December 1937, during the Second Japanese-Sino War, a Chinese doctor, his Japanese pregnant wife, their teenage daughter and their young son travel from Shanghai to Nanjing seeking shelter in the Capital during the Japanese invasion. The family faces the Rape of Nanking by the Imperial Japanese Army, with rapes, mass murder of prisoners of war and civilians including women, children and elders, and disrespect of international conventions.

Kherson, Ukraine's embattled city, has endured invasion, occupation, and liberation. On February 24, 2022, Russian tanks entered Kherson, leading to brutal occupation marked by violence. An underground resistance formed, led by brave individuals like journalist Valentyna and others who risked arrest and torture to support the cause. After nine months, Ukrainian forces liberated Kherson, but Russian destruction left the city in chaos. Shelling and drone attacks became relentless, and in June 2023, a dam explosion flooded the city, causing further devastation. Despite these challenges, Kherson's spirit remained unbroken, with citizens embracing arts and resilience. By August 2024, drone attacks specifically targeted civilians, yet the city resisted, determined to rebuild and reclaim its identity, refusing to succumb to ruin.
American conductor John Meredith and his manager, Hank Higgins, go to Russia shortly before the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union. Later his elder brother, Jongsik, returns to the village as a South Korean army officer, Chunsoo stabs himself in the eye in order to stop the two brothers from fighting. The two brothers are, however, executed as scapegoats of an ideology. Twenty years later, Jinhyung, Chunsoo's grandson, takes over his grandfather's pottery business. He then learns about h is ancestor's mysterious past.
