Idriss Gabel and Marie Calvas are the grandson and granddaughter of Rudolf Hess's last chaplain in Berlin-Spandau prison. Hess (1894-1987), a fanatical anti-Semite, was Adolf Hitler's deputy in Nazi Germany and personally participated in the formulation of the Nuremberg Race Laws. As a French military chaplain, Charles Gabel was the only person authorized to speak with Hess in private for almost ten years. In this documentary, his grandchildren ask: What kind of relationship did their grandfather have with this member of the Nazi leadership? Hess was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1946 as part of the Nuremberg Trials of major war criminals. He served his sentence throughout the Cold War as the sole inmate of the huge Spandau Prison. Sergeant X of the Foreign Legion

1960 Movie

A remake and rewriting by director Bernard Borderie and scripters of a well-made 1932 film, this routine French drama seems a little outdated. The story has changed from a Russian officer who returns home from the war to find his wife has remarried, to a former paratrooper who tries to drive a stolen truck back from Morocco and suffers an accident -- and the same fate as the Russian. As a result of his injuries and the subsequent delay, the ex-military man is unable to get home as scheduled, and the woman he loves decides that he has left her. Once she "realizes" that supposed truth, she decides to marry her boss. As in the earlier film, one of the protagonists ends up in the French Foreign Legion and all three head toward a fateful meeting in a North African desert.

2021 Movie

Chronicles the little-known story of Allied airmen imprisoned at the Buchenwald Concentration Camp in the waning months of World War II. In the summer of 1944, 168 airmen from the US, England, Canada and other Allied countries were captured in Paris by the German Gestapo and sent to the infamous "Koncentration Lager Buchenwald" in Germany. Falsely accused of being "terrorists and saboteurs," the airmen faced a terrifying fight for survival and a race against time to escape their execution. A controversial moment in history that their home countries tried to hush-up, Lost Airmen of Buchenwald tells this harrowing story through interviews with seven surviving members of the group, including their heroic commanding officer. The film follows them from their days hiding with the French Resistance to the darkest corners of the Holocaust, where they struggled to survive as Germany collapsed under the weight of the advancing Russian and Allied armies
