Wilbur is a TV show who first aired on Discovery Kids and Ready Set Learn on TLC. Produced in San Diego, California by EKA Productions, the series debuted April 16, 2007. Wilbur is a production of Mercury Filmworks, in association with Chilco Productions, EKA Distribution, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Egmont Imagination, and Discovery Kids. The show originally was a pilot produced by Cuppa Coffee in 2001. Wilbur, the main character of the TV series, is a young calf who uses books to find ideas and solve problems. Knowing that books have all the answers, Wilbur guides his friends Dasha the duck, Ray the rooster and Libby the lamb, through various stories to help them find the answers they are searching for. Wilbur aired once weekly in the early morning hours of Monday on Hub Network from June 6, 2011 to June 25, 2012.
The interconnectedness of all things is a fundamental part of reading motivation projects. Although GPN's Reading Rainbow claims to have invented that idea, Stories of America with host Ann McGregor got there first. It was 1976, America's bicentennial year, and WVIZ-TV of Cleveland wanted something more out of a series aimed at delivering American history, They decided to combine history with reading. The result was Stories of America. Hosting was the familiar face of Ann McGregor, who had enlivened Picture Book Park and Tilson's Bookshop some two years earlier. Stories of America resembled more of a story reading than a history lesson, but it also introduced other elements that became standard Reading Rainbow procedure. There were occasional film sequences, dramatizations, and even an animation. All told, the 32-part Stories of America series ran some 14 years on WVIZ-TV. Trouble unfolds when Tezaab, a dangerous villain, escapes from his high-security prison. When Little Singham gets word of this, he sets out on a mission to find the evil mutants Tezaab has created and wreak havoc.
British Museum tour guide named Agatha in each episode guides three children from one town on a quest to help them defeat the evil Dark Lord, whose servants, cowled figures called the Dark Forces, glide the darkened corridors and display rooms of the museum. The children have only one night to discover a relic in the museum itself and they have to win three challenges.
