In the dry west, Louise MacLeod works as a secretary for Robert Powell, a lawyer defending businessman John Phelan, whom the ranchers accuse of monopolizing water rights. Louise's father, Gordon, is one of the ranchers, and so Louise keeps him informed of Robert's strategy, resulting in the ranchers winning their case.

Jeremy Wales, a crook who stays on the safe side of the law but bends it whenever possible,has tricked short-sighted John 'Dad" Saunders to sign a note for ten thousand dollars instead of the one thousand that Saunders borrowed to work his "Rose o' My Heart" mine. Saunders tells his problem to Phil Lee, a prosperous young rancher, whose method of settling problems has gained him the nickname of "Quick Trigger."

The Shooting of Dan McGrew

Although the dance troupe of which she is leading lady is successful in South America, Lou urges her husband, Jim, to seek another environment for the sake of their 2-year-old son. When Dan McGrew offers to put Lou on the New York stage and beats Jim in a fight, she runs away with him to Alaska, where she becomes a decoy in the Malamute saloon. Learning that Lou has been duped by her abductor, Jim follows them to the Klondike and kills McGrew. Husband, wife, and child are then reunited.

Rustler Pete Sontag kidnaps Merlin Warner after he kills her father. Pete, a drug smuggler who uses his saloon as a front, coerces Merlin though beatings to become the dancer Mexicali Mae. She meets and falls in love with morphine addict Joe Blanchard but Pete frames Joe for a murder that he committed, forcing Mae to hide Joe in a homestead in the hills. After many struggles, Joe is cured of his addiction and proposes to Mae. She accepts, but when his mother and fiancée Eleanor arrive, they offer her money to leave, Mae refuses the money but becomes convinced that she is not good enough for Joe and writes to him that she is returning to the saloon. Joe learning of his mother’s plot arrives at the saloon and in the resultant fight Pete is killed. Mae and Joe are reconciled.

Gold from Weepah

Jim Blaine and his daughter Elsie meet Bill Carson , while en route to Weepah in search of gold. Elsie, who is much admired by Bill, plays the violin in the dance-hall managed by Steve Morton, who controls a gang of claim jumpers. Elsie's father is robbed of gold dust by one of Morton's men, Bill recovers it and indicates he knows the culprit.

A discouraged prospector is about to give up his search when he hears his two little children praying, "Please, God, help papa find gold." Their faith gives him new hope and their prayer is efficacious, for he does find it and so stakes the claim, intending to register it at his earliest opportunity. Meanwhile "Faro Kate" and her gambler husband ride by the claim and jump it, the husband urging Kate to go to the Claim Office and register it. When the prospector returns to his "diggings" he finds the gambler in possession and in a struggle the prospector falls and is hurt. The prospector's wife, arriving at the claim, realizes she must win the race to the Claim Office.

Lorna is a woman and she is all business when it comes to running the "L.L." Ranch and she has no trouble in handling it and the "boys" who work for her, especially "Jeff," her foreman, who gives her a hand. She evidently appreciates his services and thinks him a handy and pleasant fellow to have around, her "Runs" are the best in Texas. There is a question of title to her land. Finally the Supreme Court decides against her and she is obliged to turn the "L.L." Ranch over to Sir Reginald Coutts-Harcourt, in whose favor the decision has been made.
